"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin

Example of Class Work: How We Keep Clean. I feel that these types of lessons are important so that students become aware of hygiene and reflect on their own methods of keeping their bodies clean. The purpose was to have children think about these thing and to begin to be independent while doing these hygenic activities.

Example of Homework: My Environmental Pledge. This sheet was used in order to allow children to become aware of their impact on the environment. My goal was to help them make good decisions regarding their habits that impact our earth.

Example of Group Work: Conserving Water. Again, this activity was used in order for children to become aware of their impact on the environment. An added benefit of this activity was to allow students to synergize to see the ways that they can help the earth in everyday life.

Example of Student Work: How I Stayed Physically Active This Week. This piece of work was by a little girl named Katie. It is important for children to understand that physical activity is important- but also fun! Again, it gets them writing so it helps them with their literacy skills.

Example of Group Work: Grouping Around the Classroom. This activity was done in groups of 3-4 and the objective was for students to practice their grouping skills (groups of 2, 5, 10, etc). It also helped them with their interpersonal skills as they were required to work together to find the answers. An added bonus: it got children up and moving around the class.

Example of Group Work: Hunt for Math. This activity was a beginning lesson on geometry. The students were to get into groups of 3-4 and find shapes around the classroom. The objective was to show students that geometry is everywhere. These particular students were to find oval-shaped objects and came up with egg-shaped paper, eggs from a science experiment, "math pads" (plastic pads with numbers on them), and "the world" (a globe). This is a kinesthetic and collaborative assignment and students love this active method of learning.
